Grape and wine production have a long history in the St. James area. Officially recognized as the Ozark Highlands, our region is fondly known as "Little Italy of the Ozarks" thanks to the establishment of an Italian settlement in the area more than 100 years ago. The Italians who settled here planted vineyards, and by 1922 over 2000 acres of grapes on about 200 vineyards dotted the landscape. Over the years a strong Italian heritage and influence has remained in the St. James area.
The actual school house used to educate the Italian immigrant's children is adjacent to our winery's vineyards. With our School House label wines, the St. James Winery is proud to recognize the hard work and determination of the Italian settlers who first planted grapes in this area.
St. James Winery is approximately 100 miles west of St. Louis near historic Route 66. Located just off Interstate 44 with easy access on and off the highway, were right on the way to exciting attractions like Branson and the Lake of the Ozarks. Nearby are some of Missouris best outdoor sporting opportunities that include canoeing, fishing, rafting, hiking, and camping.
